Purley on Thames Parish Council

 

The Parish Council for Purley on Thames is elected every four years. The next election will be in May 2003. It consists of 13 members elected from a single ward.

 

It has several committees: Recreation, Highways and Footpaths, Planning, Barn and Burials which do most of the work. The main council meets roughly on a monthly cycle at the Parish Office at the Goosecroft Recreation Ground.

 

Among its many assets are:-

 

At Goosecroft:- a six acre playing field and pavilion, a smaller playing area, three hard tennis courts, The Barn, Purley burial ground, Parish Office, and caretakers bungalow. Part of the land is leased to the Purley Sports and Social Club.

 

In other parts of the Parish:- The Bowling Green, Bucknells Meadow Recreation Ground, four bus shelters, Pike Shaw and the Allotments (leased from the Bucknell Trust) plus a number of footpaths and miscellaneous parcels of land.  

 

It levies a precept each year to pay for local services. In 2003/2004 the precept is £62,000  equating to a band D Council tax of £34.88
