The Royal Berkshire Regiment

My interest in the Royal Berkshire Regiment arose from an extra-mural course run at Reading University in 1992. As a result we formed the Kitchener Battalions Project whose initial objective was to gather documentation about the three Kitchener Battalions of the Royal Berks which fought on the western front. We have, as a consequence, amassed a huge amount of information about the regiment, not just in the First World War, but rather, throughout its history. We have a database with some 83,000 entries of men who fought with the regiment between 1881 and 1920.

To date the project has published four books in the Kitchener Battalions series and we have plans for further books in the future. Also I am a Trustee of the Regimental Museum in Salisbury and you might like to visit their website.

It is not possible to make all the information that we have available here, but we are always happy to try to answer any questions you may have. You may send an e-mail to john@purley.demon.co.uk or write to us care of the regimental museum . The links below will take you to the information available.
