This is not a ‘pretty’ site. It is intended to provide both information and links to other sites where further information may be found. Thus as far as possible I have avoided using graphics and photographs to make it quicker to download and navigate the opening pages.
I have included links to a number of other sites which may be of further interest and will be adding to this in due course.
Several of these pages relating to the Royal Berks Regiment will be
transferred to the RGBW(
Site History
The previous updates were
28th FEBRUARY 2003 – since October I have been progressively adding further pages including a ‘whats on’ for Purley, my ‘District Notes’ and pages from the Chronicles of Purley. On the 28th I downloaded a large file with some 1000 names of men from the Royal Berkshire Regiment who were taken prisoner. I am now about to advertise the site.
8th OCTOBER 2002 – a complete redesign avoiding the use of frames – a few new pages to complete the new structure. Some of the old pages have been left in place but all will be replaced in due course. This has given rise to a few instances of the ‘back’ facility not working properly. Should this occur then you need to ‘close’ the page to return.
7th DECEMBER 2001 – Several minor amendments and corrections – beginning to move the page reference numbers to the end and noting updating dates.
30th JULY 2001 – This update adds the history of the Church in Purley on Thames and makes a few minor corrections to other pages.
19th FEBRUARY 2001 – This update brings information about Purley on Thames Parish Council and more information about individual Battalions of the Royal Berks regiment in WW1. Also a number of link errors have been corrected.
20th DECEMBER 2000 – after a lot of hassle I managed to set up the new site based on Microsoft Word on my Demon Homepages. There were several new pages.
2nd APRIL 1999 The principal changes were:- Additions to the Purley Account to show lists of Bishops and Members of Parliament who served Purley
18th APRIL 1999 - information about the 5th Royal Berks in WW1 was added plus a list of Archdeacons of Berkshire. from the 12th century.
10th FEBRUARY 1999 – The original site was very much a trial to see if I could get going.
